Arrow Town

As one of the most scenic residential area in New Zealand, Arrowtown, located by Arrow River, was once a bustling land of gold rush.

Maintaining its original historical characteristics, Arrowtown still reserves over 60 historic buildings that had been built since the 19th century. The history of gold rush was over long time ago (but there is a chance that you can find gold in rivers there), and the town is focusing on its tourist industry.

You can visit the residential area of Chinese miners and museums in the lake district, or go to some challenging gold courses. You can also take a four-wheel sightseeing car to Macetown, a silent town that one can only reach by four-wheel cars. Various cafes, restaurants and eye-catching stores have been set up in Arrowtown.

Arrowtown is 21 kilometers northeast of Queenstown. In late autumn, the picturesque streets will be covered with yellow leaves, depicting a beautiful autumn image.

In 1862, William Fox found gold near the town, which promoted the developments of the town, and Lakes District Museum, lying in Arrowtown, is seen as the best small museum in New Zealand.

Some historic sites are preserved in good condition in Arrowtone, some of which are still used by now.
