Franz Josef Glacier


Franz Josef Glacier, located in the Westland National Park in western South Island, New Zealand, also lies in Te Wahipounamu, a broad world heritage in South Island.

The glacier is a major attraction in the west coast of New Zealand. Travelers can set foot on the glacier without the guidance of tours, but if they expect to climb the glacier, special tools, including ice axes and picks, and special boots are needed.

Road Conditions:

Along the No.6 driveway in the west coast, there are some mountain roads that are easy to drive. The driveway from the west coast to the southern lake regions rises in altitude, with beautiful views and fine road conditions. There are few cities in the west coast. Rather, there are many towns, so gas stations are rare, which makes it necessary to refuel in time.

Many restaurants have been set up in Franz Josef Glacier, many of which are Western restaurants. There are many Western restaurants, fast food restaurants and cafes in Wanaka, but you can also choose to cook for yourself in your touring car.
