Picton


Picton is a port city in the northeast South Island in New Zealand. Picton and Wellington are separated by Cook Strait (64 kilometers wide). Located in the terminal station of railway in South Island, the city is also the outer harbor of Blenheim. With a population of 4,129 (1986), the city, with advanced coastal traffic, is the gateway that connects South Island with North Island and exports fruits, grains and wool.

The scenic seaside town is the base of ferries in South Island and connects with the mainland of New Zealand. Departing from the town, one can go to Marlborough Bay to enjoy the views of sea, forest and island. The town was constructed around a secluded port and has beautiful coastal roadways. Some cafes, restaurants and art galleries are installed on the road side. The local staff will lead you to cruising, fishing, dolphin watching or kayaking. Queen Charlotte Track is one of the major attractions and you can walk or ride a mountain bike to visit the track.
